Have you ever been somewhere that you would never go on your own?
That would be Missoula Montana for me. Working on a marathon in all 50 states so Missoula in July sounded like a good idea at the time.
The first thing I noticed was the lack of diversity but with all my travels I have gotten some what use to that. Logan Utah was, up until this point, had the highest level of lack of color but Missoula was over the top. Don't get me wrong, I am not judging here, just making an observation. The people were so out of their way nice and it was greatly appreciated. At 6 foot 6, I already stand out in a crowd so I am use to people following me with their eyes but here they were also all smiles. The weather was great and that made for a very enjoyable 26.2 miles of running. The views were extra ordinary so it did seem to help past the time. It was an 5 hour marathon but at 56 years of age not bad for an old man.
I would like to go back to visit and spend longer than a weekend but I am still a bit confused about all the casinos. It kind of takes away from the mountains in the back drop but the bike lanes and dog friendly atmosphere kind of evens it out. That was my 29th state and it was also a training run for Iron Man Louisville that I have coming up at the end of August.
